This looks very much like "The Bunny Hutch" in what is now called "West Hampton {sic} Dunes."
ReplyDeleteIf it is, you're right in calling it a landmark, one of the last three buildings which survived the '38 hurricane.
It used to be across Dune Road on the Ocean side 'til its owner, Nancy Royce Fenner, granddaughter of the original owners, Louis Dean and Lillian Vanderbilt Speir, moved it to its present location in 1988.
It was originally built as a "bathing station," and they used to sail to it from their Summer home at the end of Basketneck Lane in Remsenburg.
Is there nothing to which real estate people will stoop to, to advance their business interests?
