The sun was out but grey purple clouds were approaching from the north eclipsing the bright sun which had bathed us through out the lazy day spent on dune road south. Hampton<br />A light drizzle began to. fall land something told me that it was time to go inside our bungalow at the bee hive. My bones told me that the approaching storm was different. It was moving too fast and getting too dark too fast.<br />So molly and I went back into our beehive number seven just seconds before the drizzle became a down pour and the furry of nature fell upon our humble little bungalow just feet from the waters edge. a display of natures violence I have yet to experience until this day<br />The tranqui baylwhipped from lake calm to an ocean furry as the wind and rain attacked our small cottage facing the bay. The phone rang<br />It was my friend jeff calling from manhattan. How are you doing buddy jeff said<br />Jeff I said I would love to talk to you but there is an incredible storm hitting me right now.<br />Jeff a long time resident of amagansett told me to batten down the hatches and thats what I proceeded to do.I went to the porch side of the bungalow as I switched the phone with jeff on the other end from the right to my left so that I could raise the glass window over the storm doors screen just as a mighty gust hurled me back knocking me off my feet shooting me back fifteen feet until I bounced up against the inflatable bed we use here in this simple bungalow to sleep on.<br />Jeff. Jeff. Are you still there as umbrella and picnic accessories lay strewn about the room.<br />Yes I’m here mike. What happened<br />I just got knock down and thrown across the room. This is an amazing storm I said its unbelievable I have to go. Jeff i said to batten down the hatches as I struggled to my feet towards the flapping storm door<br />The screen was bent in half. Its aluminum frame cracked at the mid section by the same gust which had knocked me back. I was amazed I knew this was no ordinary storm<br />I ran about the cottage raising glass in front of screens and the thunder exploded as the lightening bolts advanced across the bay in direct line with our tiny bungalow at the bee hive on dune road. It was scary. The wind howled the small house shook as the rain and wind bore down on us.<br />I finally managed to get all the windows closed as the full force of the mighty storm began to batter us. Would the tiny aged cottage be able to take the force ? I thought<br />I cleared a fogged window and saw a minutes earlier bay now whipped up into a frenzy of three to four foot swells. Pleasure boats and jet skies bobbed wildly and tugged at their moorings as the sudden and fierce gale wagged away. All mans waters crafts were like rag dolls<br />I was stunned and in awe as horizontal and vertical shafts of electricity tore through the sky. I gasped and back stepped away from the window. Molly. Did you see that my god what a storm<br />Soon the wind had passed and the bay settled but we were treated to the most spectacular display of natures fire works over the bay that one might ever see in a life time.<br />Molly meandered out onto the deck sensing in her animal wisdom that the danger had passed<br />Around ten o’clock. Hours after the storm had passed I went to get a sandwich downtown in west hampton village.
